Good Neighbor Reminders
The City of Cleveland Heights has always encouraged neighbor-to-neighbor communication. Street meetings and block parties are held to strengthen that bond. Residents want to feel comfortable and safe living on their street. It is for this reason that the City offers the following reminders.
Please use the following curfew guidelines for you and your children:
- Parents and guardians shoulder the responsibility for enforcing curfew violations. All persons charged with curfew violations will be referred to Juvenile Court.
- Children under 12 cannot be out on public streets, highways, sidewalks, public parks or public grounds from the period from darkness until 6:00 am.
- Parents and guardians shoulder the responsibility for enforcing curfew violations. All persons charged with curfew violations will be referred to Juvenile Court.
- Children under 12 cannot be out on public streets, highways, sidewalks, public parks or public grounds from the onset of darkness until 6:00 am.
- Young people 12 or older, but under 16 years of age, cannot be out on public streets, highways, sidewalks, public parks or public grounds from 10:30 pm to 6 am.
- No one 16 years of age or older, but under 18 years of age, can be out between 12:00 midnight and 6:00 am.
- Exceptions to these rules are when: children and teens are accompanied by parents, guardians, or members of the family who are 18 years or older; they are on errands or other legitimate business under the parents' direction; or they are engaged in gainful and lawful employment during curfew hours.
No one should play games in the street. Children should be encouraged to play in their own front and back yards.
The City has a noise ordinance that prohibits unreasonably loud or disturbing noise by voice, musical instrument, amplification, television, car, etc. between the hours of 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. If noise gets too loud from a neighboring property, you may wish to ask your neighbors, if you feel comfortable doing so, to lower their music, voices, etc. If, after speaking to them, the noise level does not improve, or, if you feel you cannot speak to them, call the Police Department non-emergency number at 216-321-1234.
Sometimes the noise stops before the police arrive. If loud noise from a neighboring property is an ongoing problem, email Community Relations or call 216-291-2323. A letter will be sent to your neighbors asking them to call Community Relations to discuss the problem. In an emergency situation, of course, call 911.
Please take into consideration the following rules regarding pets in Cleveland Heights:
- Only two dogs or cats, or a combination of one each, are allowed per dwelling.
- Only domestic animals are permitted as pets in the city of Cleveland Heights.
- Dogs must be leashed at all times when they are outside, and owners must not permit the dog to bark or howl to the extent that it disturbs the peace.
- Owners must also remove all feces deposited by their pets on public or private property.
- To protect our pets and neighbors, a pet must always be kept on a leash when going for a walk or any other time the pet leaves its home. This will reduce the chances of the pet wandering away and possibly hurting itself and others.
- Cats should be kept indoors and provided toys, companionship and a clean litter box. Stray cats may fight noisily and become a nuisance to neighbors.
- All dogs must wear valid license tags issued by the county and available from the Treasury window at City Hall.
- If you have an animal complaint, email Community Relations or call 216-291-2323.
If you see litter in your neighborhood, please be a good neighbor and pick it up promptly. Be sure to remind your children not to discard candy wrappers and other litter around the neighborhood.
No person, without privilege to do so, shall enter or remain on the land of another when the offender knows he is in violation of such restriction. Children should be reminded to avoid trespassing on neighbors' lawns and yards, and to respect elderly residents on the street.
