Sewer District to Present Lower Lake Recommendation

City News Posted on August 01, 2025

The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District will share a presentation on its latest recommendation for Lower Shaker Lake dam at a joint work session of the Shaker Heights and Cleveland Heights city councils on Monday, August 11 at 7:00 pm.

Cleveland Heights Special Council Committee of the Whole meeting will be held in its Executive Conference Room. Shaker City Council will meet in Council Chambers, in Shaker Heights City Hall. Cleveland Heights Council members will join the Shaker meeting via Zoom.

After their presentation, made in the Shaker Council Chambers, Sewer District representatives will take questions from council members and from residents attending in person in Shaker Heights and via Zoom. The Zoom link and the District’s presentation will be attached to the meeting agenda, available to the public on the Agenda page of the Cleveland Heights website.

The Sewer District will hold public engagement sessions starting with a virtual session on Tuesday, August 19 at 6:00 pm. The link for that meeting will be available at neorsd.org/lowerlake. The Sewer District will also offer two opportunities for in-person engagement (one daytime and one evening) in the days following the virtual session.

The Sewer District now recommends removing rather than replacing the Lower Lake dam, in order to eliminate the public safety threats associated with a catastrophic failure or uncontrolled breach of the dam. More information on that recommendation is available on the Sewer District website.
