Parks and Recreation Youth Advisory Board

Council is currently seeking applicants for the new Parks and Recreation Youth Advisory Board.

The Board will make recommendations to Council on parks and recreation matters, including the development of recreational programs, parks maintenance, and the creation and use of recreational spaces. The Board will promote positive community relations and engagement among youth of all ages by organizing events, workshops, and initiatives and engaging with the Commission on Aging to help encourage activity between youth and seniors.

The Board will have between 9 and 18 members. Board members must be between the ages of 15 and 23 and live within the boundaries of the Cleveland Heights-University Heights School District.

At least 6 members will be public high school students (Heights High School or Shaw High School), including 2 freshmen, 2 sophomores, and 2 juniors. At least one-third of the Board’s membership must be private, parochial, or home-schooled students. The Board will have 3nonvoting adult Board members: the Chair of Council’s Community Relations and Recreation Committee, a Cleveland Heights Library administrator, and a Cleveland Heights High School teacher appointed by the Cleveland Heights School District.

Cleveland Heights City Council will appoint voting members following an application process. All applications must be accompanied by three (3) letters of recommendation from non-family members.
